Casey Blanchard in 2015 Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Fall Art Exhibit
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center has opened its 2015 Fall Art Exhibit with Shelburne, VT artist, Casey Blanchard, among the six artists selected for the show. The DHMC Fall Exhibit, running now through December, is displaying Blanchard’s work in its Level 5 Rotunda. Blanchard’s images lend themselves well to the affirming effects art has on healing, many of her prints are currently in hospital private collections. Blanchard has eleven monoprints on display illustrating the diversity of her work and artful use of organic elements often found in her prints. Among her works are two digital images of her “Looped” series, printed on 32” aluminum panels. This is a new medium Blanchard has been working with for its affect with her art, and for its protective and frameless benefits. Blanchard’s work in its original size is luminescent and contemplative, a larger scale takes those elements to an even greater dimension. DHMC is located at One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH. For more information on Blanchard, visit her website at www.caseyblanchard.com or visit her studio at Brickwork Art Studios, 266 South Champlain, Burlington, VT (call ahead!).

Art Installation at the University of Vermont Medical Center's New Garden Atrium
This is a sneak preview of my newest art installation, a Burlington City Arts collaboration, at the University of Vermont Medical Center's new Garden Atrium. This new atrium project is located on the 3rd floor of the East Pavilion of the hospital.
The original size of my monoprint collage of Dragonfly is 16 1/2" x 11". Now, through the magic of digital enlargement and then printed on separate aluminum panels, the ensemble covers the span of 8' x 6'!
The installation is currently protected from construction debris while the rest of the atrium project is completed. Stay tuned for the unveiling!

Dragon Boats & Waterfront Art!
Celebrating their 10th anniversary, the Lake Champlain Dragon Boat Festival continues to be one of Burlington's favorite summer Festivals. Part of this exciting event is the showcase of many of Vermont's finest artists. I have a watercolor featured in the "On the Waterfront" art exhibit now on display through August 29 at Main Street Landing's Union Station. Portions of the art sales join all funds going to support the programs of Dragonheart Vermont and Survivorship NOW, cancer wellness programs. If you find yourself down by the water, wander through the Union Station and take in the spectacular exhibit. And visit often, especially to cheer on the paddlers readying for the event and on race day!

Casey's new business cards!
Over a winter's hot toddy with a friend our conversation veered toward business cards. “Wait a minute… you need to see this…” She handed me a unique square-shaped business card for Birdwalk Press with the impressions of bird tracks in its logo. I loved it! Her son, Ian Johnson and wife Mina, it turns out operate a custom letterpress and design business in Bozeman, Montana. I reached out to Ian right away and the true fun began. At first, I thought of a letterpress front-side and my art printed on the back. Then I thought “why not use my actual artwork for the cards?” From my stacks of work at different stages, I pulled well over two hundred of my prints for Ian to use. Here are the photos of the process and the end result of our work together. It’s been great fun to work with Ian and to see how he does his craft. Every business card is a Casey Blanchard original! WSJ article - More Hospitals Use the Healing Powers of Public Art: Hospitals Are Giving Artwork a Higher Priority
Casey would like to share an article,
published on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, in the Wall Street Journal about hospitals and art:
"More Hospitals Use the Healing Powers of Public Art: Hospitals are Giving
Artwork a Higher Priority" by Laura Landro.
To view the article on the WSJ's
website, click
here.
Casey holds membership with two of the
reporting organizations cited: the Arts & Health Alliance, as well as the
Center for Healthy Design.
This is a rather timely article, as
Casey's popularity is growing in the healthcare industry for just this reason,
her natural elements and layering of color find themselves organically on
trend, according to the research noted: patients are positively affected by
nature themes…that convey a sense of security and safety. Casey describes her
art as offering contemplation, serenity, color and nature coming together in a
visual rest stop.
The article points out "Hospitals
aren't shying away from art whose content is open to interpretation or might
make patients reflect." Casey's artwork is found to be both appealing and
commanding. As Casey puts it, she intends her compositions "to encourage
reflection, introspection and exploration. They allow the viewer a space to
engage. It's just the viewer and the art in an intimate field of private
contemplation."
She has private collections in two
major medical facilities, held at both Fletcher Allen Health Care and at the Dartmouth
Hitchcock Medical Center.
Casey Blanchard's art can positively
affect an atmosphere in an inviting, colorful and powerful way, whether it is
in a medical facility, a hotel, or even a home.
Distinctive Art Source article - "Five Steps to an Integrated Visual Experience"
Casey
would like to share an article from Distinctive Art Source's White Paper
("Five Steps to an Integrated Visual Experience", Feb. 25, 2015),
that speaks to early involvement of an artist in projects.
"The
atmosphere of any public or healing space is of the utmost importance in the
finished healthcare project to improve the viewer/patient experience.
All-too-often the artwork that plays an integral part in the space is
considered late in the process, sometimes even last.
The
creation of that space, starts with a strategy and design which works best when
all the team players are involved at the onset. Here is a well written
white paper from Distinctive Art Source, a health care art consultancy I admire, and
that has my art in their data base of artwork. My artwork has been
included in many hospitality and healthcare environments. I welcome the
opportunity to work in your design process. It’s an extra effort but it
works, saves time and money, and it’s fun."

Featured Artist in Seven Days article "Local Art Enlivens Hilton Garden Inn"
I am excited to be featured in Seven Days' March 18th publication as one of the artists in a piece ("Local Art Enlivens Hilton Garden Inn") that spotlighted the the artwork in the new hotel, Hilton Garden Inn in Burlington, VT.
The Hilton Garden Inn, newly opened in Burlington, is a work of art, made so because it features the artwork of many local artists. I have nearly five hundred pieces throughout the hotel in guest rooms and the lounge areas. The Hilton Garden Inn has assured every visitor a very Vermont experience. Here is Seven Days recent piece about the new hotel, where I have been featured. If you find yourself downtown, stop in the Hilton Garden Inn and see what we all have done.
